RESEARCH
We focus on developing experimental and computational technology for quantitative analysis of complex metabolic networks in their entirety. One key methodology is intracellular flux analysis based on stable isotope tracer experiments for quantitative monitoring of network responses to genetic and exogeneous perturbations. Such in vivo fluxes provide a global perspective on the integrated genetic and metabolic regulation that occur within the network. Beyond large-scale identification of interactions and transcriptional control of network operation in model bacteria and eukaryotes, we develop technology for application to higher cells in collaboration with other groups in the Center as e.g. the groups of Nicola Zamboni, Joachim Buhmann, or Matthias Peter.
